ZHANNA ZELEKE

Certified Iyengar Teacher Junior II / Pilates Teacher / FRC / Owner

Zhanna started her career in health and wellness as a pilates instructor in Russia. After trying Iyengar yoga in her local gym, she was hooked. She was drawn to the precision, structure, and alignment that the Iyengar style offers. She quickly realized that yoga is beneficial for both body and mind. Zhanna had her first teacher training in Russia. After moving to Canada, she continued her training at Yoga Centre Toronto.

She continues to study regularly and had the privilege of studying with the Iyengar Family at RIMYI in Pune. She currently holds a Junior 2 level certification and Functional Range Mobility Specialist (FRCms). She is passionate about bringing yoga to people of all abilities and experience levels, and her extensive training allows her to safely do just that.

She blends her Russian humour with the attention to detail and precise alignment characteristic of the Iyengar style, which maximize the integrity and benefit of each pose. Zhanna will help you find a balance between flexibility and strength, and will make you laugh while doing it, cultivating change in mind and body. Outside the studio, Zhanna loves dancing, fashion, walking by the lake, and classic movies.

She has training in both Pilates and Yoga for rehabilitation, and uses these principles in her physiotherapy treatment. Josie’s approach to physiotherapy emphasizes correction of posture, muscle imbalances, and faulty movement patterns. These conditions are often sources of pain, may contribute to arthritis, and impede your enjoyment of daily activities including your Yoga practice. Josie works closely with Zhanna to prevent and treat various injuries, and to facilitate safe return to your Yoga practice. Josie is a student at Lakeshore Yoga Oakville practicing at the intermediate level. Physiotherapy sessions are offered in the privacy of your home, and may be covered by your insurance plan (extended health benefits or motor vehicle accident insurance). I am writing this to say thank you to Josie Germano and Zhanna Zeleke. I have been a regular yoga practitioner with Zhanna for the past 8 years. I shared with Zhanna, my yoga instructor, that I was having difficulty with my left knee. I didn’t feel it was serious enough to stop my practice. Zhanna recommended I reach out to Josie Germano, a Registered Physiotherapist and Certified Acupuncture Practitioner, connected with the Studio. I did. Josie did an amazing job diagnosing my issue with my knee. Her knowledge and excellent questioning skills soon diagnosed a possible tear in my meniscus. She had me in for scans quickly and had me doing exercises to start the healing process. There was a lot of swelling so while waiting for scans we tried acupuncture. I was fortunate it worked almost immediately on the swelling and pain. Both these ladies were instrumental in my healing quickly. Today I continue to do my physio exercises while Zhanna helps me with my Yoga practice by adjusting some of the poses to accommodate my injury as it heals.

PS. Josie was right when the scans came back there was a medial meniscus tear.

Thank you so much,

Zhanna and Josie

Our family has known Josie since 2012.  Here is why we have a long standing relationship:

  1. Josie does home visits – which means she spends her full visit one-on-one with you.
  1. Josie enables you.  She enables you to recover by investing in yourself.  Josie provides exercises between visits, and conscientious patients can improve by investing in themselves – it builds your confidence and an understanding of your body.
  1. Josie is holistic in her approach and is open to new ideas and cultures.  As an example, she was the one who introduced my family to Iyengar yoga and I am thankful to her for doing so.

Most of all Josie is knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with.  Our family would recommend her to anyone who needs a physiotherapist.
